We believe social and environmental responsibility has never been up for debate. We have a promise to our customers, followers, colleagues and all stakeholders in Black Spell. It is that we will not compromise our social and environmental ethics in any areas of our business, including creating our products.
Our unisex tees are screen printed here in the UK onto unisex jersey crews, made from 100% ring spun cotton. These tees are manufactured in the United States with eco-friendly production – ultra efficient dye machines save over 24 million gallons of water a week and their manufacturing facilities produce almost zero landfill.
Dyed and cut in the United States, these garments are then assembled in the U.S. or Central America. They are also 100% sweatshop-free and Platinum W.R.A.P. Certified.
At Black Spell we endeavour to try and only use waterbased inks on our apparel, as opposed to the mass market standard plastisol ink. Plastisol’s chemical base is made up of something called polyvinyl chloride (or PVC), which is composed of a plasticizer liquid and PVC resin (i.e. harmful chemicals). PVC is valued for its ease of use and versatility in mass production.
As a compound, water-based ink is much more gentle on the environment than plastisol ink. It simply doesn’t contain any of the toxic chemicals of its plastisol counterparts (no PVC, no phthalates). Instead it’s comprised of naturally occurring substances.
