Black Spell Ambassador Introduction Feature
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Ami and I’m a 28-year-old surfer/skater/photographer from Bournemouth. Although I grew up in Bournemouth, my heart and soul belong to Cornwall. I’ve been going there a few times a year, every year since I was a kid and I fall more in love with it every time I visit. I learnt to surf at Perranporth and it’s still my favourite beach in the UK to surf!
How would you describe your style/attitude?
Growing up with two brothers and a majority of male cousins, I was never going to be a girlie girl. I would say my style is very chill, lots of baggy tees, hoodies, and trainers (Mainly Vans & Converse). In my eyes, the comfier, the better.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Loyal, funny and sassy!
How do you start your day?
I cannot start my day without the biggest mug of tea and cuddles with my cat.
How do you end your day?
I’m usually reading a book or watching a series on Netflix, something to get me relaxed. I’m a bit late to the game, but I’m currently watching Lucifer!
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
Exploring – I love finding new places to visit and get lost in. There’s just something magical about experiencing a new place for the first time.
Who (or what) influences you?
My friends definitely play a big part in this. They’re all so driven and determined to do their best in everything they do, and I definitely take inspiration from this. They make me want to be a better person.
What makes you tick/what drives you?
I love being active, I think that’s why I love skating and surfing so much! I’m not someone who could sit at home and do nothing, I like adventure. I think that’s why I much prefer landscape photography; it means I can just go out, take my camera or my phone, and just snap all things nature, whether that be woodland, seascapes or cityscapes. My goal is to be able to incorporate all three, that’s what I’m working on.
What is it that attracted you to Black Spell?
I would say the community and the brand ethics. I love how environmentally friendly all the products are and just how lovely and genuine everyone is!
What is your favourite Black Spell design or product?
I’m obsessed with the grey hoodie – it’s just the softest thing I’ve ever worn.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I’m a sucker for a good book…and Reese’s peanut butter cups!

Which one item can you not leave the house without?
I hate to say it, but my phone! It’s not always easy to carry a big camera around all the time, so I always make sure my phone is with me in case inspiration strikes!
Name an irrational fear (if any!)
Ladybugs – Not sure why, but they just make my skin crawl!
What thing at the moment are you trying to make a habit?
I am trying to get into meditation – I’ve heard so many good things about it and have found that it really helps my anxiety when I do make time to do it.
What’s one thing you’re learning now? And why is it important?
I’m actually trying to learn to love myself – I’ve suffered with mental health problems most of my life, and I grew accustomed to negative thinking. This last year, I’ve taken it upon myself to really try to battle my inner demons and to not be so hard on myself all the time. I’ve still got quite a way to go, but I’m getting there. I really couldn’t do it without the help of my boyfriend and best friends.
What was the last thing you saw which made you smile?
A video of my dog Storm – She currently lives with my mum as I’m not able to have her with me at the moment. She is honestly my favourite thing in the entire world and I miss her so much!
